25th Anniversary - Twinning of Limerick and Quimper
2006 is the 25th anniversary of the formalisation of the twinning of Quimper and Limerick. The anniversary was celebrated in Limerick over the May weekend. His Worship the Mayor, Cllr. Diarmuid Scully, hosted a civic reception on Sunday, 30th April, which was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Quimper, Monsieur Jean-Yves Bozec, Members of the Quimper City Council, and representatives of the Quimper Twinning Committee. Breton dancers and musicians from Quimper performed in traditional costume in conjunction with Irish dancers from Scoil Rinnce Ui Ruairc. His Excellency, Monsieur Frédéric Grasset, the French Ambassador, Madame Grasset, and Madame Marie Hackett, the French Vice Consul in Limerick, were also present. The L.E. Niamh and the Epée from Lorient, Brittany, docked in Limerick Port over the weekend in honour of the occasion, and officers of both ships attended the civic reception, and reciprocated the hospitality on board their ships during the visit. Over the weekend the Quimper delegation had discussions on business opportunities with the Limerick City Enterprise Board and the Chamber of Commerce, and on European funding with City Council officials.
