Welcome to the first edition of City Matters a magazine with the latest news for Limerick’s consumers on plans to develop and promote the city. We reveal exclusively a dynamic multi-million euro regeneration plan to transform the Milk Market into a six-day market and venue for daytime and evening attractions.

LIMERICK Mayor Cllr Ger Fahy today (Tuesday) launched a new free magazine, City Matters, with all the latest news on future plans to develop the city.

Mayor Fahy said the magazine is a first for Limerick and gives consumers and stakeholders the latest update on the private and public sector plans to transform the city.

“City Matters is proud to reveal exclusively a multi-million regeneration plan for the Milk Market that will develop it into a six day market with daytime and evening attractions,” Mayor Fahy said.

This project is being spearheaded by the Market Trustees who are about to lodge a planning application for the project shortly with Limerick City Council. It is hoped that the project may be completed by September 2008, if there are not objections to the proposal.

City Matters also reveals plans for the opening of City Central in Bedford Row in December along with an outline of a landmark development for Thomas Street.

Limerick City Manager Tom Mackey outlines the planned public development projects and says the major public and private investment here shows that Limerick can fulfil its full potential as Gateway City to the Mid-West.

Irish and Munster hooker Jerry Flannery tells us how the rules of the rugby pitch helped him take over the family business.

Shannon Development’s new Regional Manager in Limerick Eoghan Prendergast says the economic regeneration of the city’s disadvantaged areas is one of their top priorities.

The magazine also features the first Marriott Hotel in Munster to open in Limerick and offers readers a chance to win a weekend for two in one of their other Irish hotels

Mayor Fahy said that City Matters is sponsored by Limerick City Council to promote the best that Limerick has to offer its citizens.

“This is our first issue and we hope to produce a number of issues a year to keep Limerick people up-to-date with public and private sector projects,” Mayor Fahy added.

The magazine was produced and edited by the Limerick Co-ordination Office (LCO) and published by Business Limerick Publications. It is supported by Shannon Development.

LCO City Centre Co-ordinator Andrew Mawhinney said: “There are many positive developments in Limerick led by the City Council and it is important for the morale of city and future investment that this information is shared.

“City Matters concentrates on public and private developments in the city centre and projects that the Limerick Co-ordination Office has been involved in, such as the Street Ambassadors and the Sunday Riverside Market.”

LCO Communications Executive Mary Dundon who produced and edited City Matters said: “This is an exciting new project that has enormous potential to grow as a major source of news for the city’s stakeholders and consumers.”
