Requirements for a valid Planning Application

  1. Fully completed application form (including details of legal interest). If the applicant is not the owner of the property, a letter of consent to the making of the planning application is required from the owner.
  2. Relevant fee (Retention is three times the normal fee)
  3. Original newspaper notice (full page) to be submitted within 14 days of publication. The notice to be published in an approved newspaper. The list of newspapers approved by Limerick City Council for the purpose of planning notices are:
    • Irish Independent,
    • Irish Times,
    • Irish Examiner,
    • Limerick Leader,
    • Limerick Post,
    • Limerick Chronicle.
    The newspaper notice must include as a heading the name of the local authority to which the application is being made, i.e. Limerick City Council, name of applicant, location of development, whether the application if for permission, outline permission, permission, retention or permission consequent on the grant of outline permission, the nature of the development including where the application relates to the carrying out of works to a protected structure or proposed protected structure, where it relates to a housing development, the number of houses. If an Environmental Impact Statement, an I.P.C. license or a Waste License is required or if the development involves a Protected Structure, an indication of that fact. The newspaper notice must also specify that applications may be inspected or purchased at the offices of the local authority and that submissions or observations may be made to the Planning and Development Department, Limerick City Council, City Hall, Limerick in writing on payment of a fee of €20 within a five week period beginning on the date of receipt by the Planning Authority of the application.
  4. Site Notice must be on prescribed form on a white background, be easily legible by persons using the public road and be maintained on site for a period of five weeks beginning on the date of receipt by the planning authority of the application.
  5. 6 copies of all relevant drawings, specifications etc.
  6. 6 copies of site location map scale 1:1000. This must be either an original Ordnance Survey map or a copy showing clearly the copyright license number. The map must be marked or coloured so as to clearly identify the site to which the application relates and the boundaries thereof.
  7. 6 copies of site layout map scale 1:500
  8. 6 copies of Environmental Impact Statement if required
  9. Section 97 Certificate if applicable (Certificate of exemption from the requirement that a specified percentage of land zoned residential or mixed development use be made available for social and affordable housing
  10. Details of how it is proposed to meet the requirements of the Housing Strategy in relation to the development (where applicable).
