• Regulations for Archives Readers

Limerick Archives provides for the collection and preservation of archives relating to Limerick city and county and makes archives available to the public. Archives are the raw material of history and the archives service is committed to preserving and documenting the past to ensure that the history of the city and county is accessible to its citizens.

Limerick Archives is jointly funded by Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council and is located on the second floor at 58 O Connell Street, Limerick. It is the repository for local government archives in Limerick City and County while also collecting archives of private origin relating to Limerick. The service has evolved from Limerick Regional Archives founded in 1986. The archives service provides record management advice to both Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council.

Collections:

Limerick Archives has one of the largest local government archive collections covering local authority archives, administrative records of older bodies including Board of Guardian records, Rural District Council records and private papers.

Access:

Access to archives is by appointment. Contact the archives service for details of available collections and to arrange an appointment. Readers are obliged to conform to the Rules for Readers

• Researchers should note that access will not be permitted to unprocessed collections.
• Photocopying is not permitted.
• The archive service cannot carry out genealogical or other research on behalf of the public.Limerick Archives does not hold any census records, records of births, deaths and marriages or any church records. Limerick Genealogy provides a professional family history research servive for Limerick City and County.
