Limerick theatregoers and Georgian enthusiasts are in for a rare treat this Summer when, Limerick woman, Joan Sheehy, presents an hilarious, historic comedy in the Georgian House, Pery Square during the month of June.

In a lavish costume drama set in Ireland of 1798, audiences will enjoy the unfolding of the tale of Buck Jones and the Body Snatchers, a new historic farce written specifically for the location, by acclaimed playwright, Ken Bourke whose productions of Wild Harvest and The Hunt for Red Willie were hugely successful for Druid Theatre Company and The Abbey, respectively.

Buck Jones and the Body Snatchers is the third in a series of historical comedies from the pen of Ken Bourke.  The year is 1798 and love, passion and revenge are all served up in a rich comic stew that spills and seeps through the threadbare fabric of Irish society. The production  will be  performed in the promenade style, where audience members follow the actors from location to location throughout the beautifully restored house.

Audiences – limited to 50 per performance will follow the journey of the play through the elegance of the Georgian drawing rooms, stairwells and corridors, to the graveyard setting in the garden, onto the shebeen in the coach house and to the crypt in the basement.  The audience is both onlooker and participant in the action whilst experiencing the beauty and strangeness of the surroundings at first hand.

Sheehy has assembled a quality cast with Dónall Farmer - best remembered for his role as Fr. Devereaux in Glenroe, making a rare return to the stage. Paul Meade and Gene Rooney return to their native Limerick from various stage and screen commitments whilst Roisin Gribbin and Denis Foley complete the cast.

Buck Jones and the Body Snatchers is a unique theatrical production which offers Limerick people and their visitors an opportunity to show some of the city’s best talents in a spectacular heritage setting.
