10-day Intensive Clown Workshop !!!

I am helping to organize a 10-days LeCoq style-clowning workshop this
coming September. The teachers are Simon Edwards and Marian Masoliver. They both trained with Jacques Le Coq in Paris and worked all around the world as performers, directors and drama teachers.

I have done some training with them last year and the quality was so
high and the workshop so enjoyable, that I wanted this year to get
more people from Ireland to go and train with them.

What is the topic of the workshop?

'THE CLOWN, The Secrets of Comedy and the art of the ridiculous' Here is a bit of more info about what it includes:

The Clown makes us laugh but how? Some people seem to make us laugh
just by walking onto the stage but why?  A 'Master class' in the art
of Comedy, led by Simon Edwards, teacher to some of today's leading
international comic actors.

Working with each actor's personal comic presence, we begin to
understand and develop comic action and timing. We will be working
with:

1- Comic presence (finding your own Clown)
2- The smallest mask in the world (the red nose)
3- Comic action and timing
4- The flop, fiasco and cascade
5- Comic relationships (solos, duos and trios)
6- Numeros (circus, cabaret)
7- Theatre Clown
8- Clown on Camera
9- Comic Creation

This workshop offers an intensive training and comic creation where
the actor discovers his or her own personal ridiculousness.

When is it?: 2nd –14th September 2008 (10 days of training)

Where?: The Actors Space ( - Vic (Barcelona)-). The Actors Space is
located in a place of outstanding natural beauty, right in the heart
of the Catalan countryside only one hour from Barcelona. The workshop
takes place in a 16th century farmhouse, which holds accommodation for
up to 20 people. The main barn has been converted into a large studio,
this is where most of the workshop sessions happen. (Its a BEAUTIFUL
PLACE believe you me!).

How much?: 650 €
What does this price include?:  The price includes the fees for the
10-days of training + shared accommodation and all home-made
Mediterranean meals! (Food is gooooood!)

Diva Artist-In-Residence Programme: Denmark

In order to promote creative exchange between Danish and foreign artists and art institutions, The Danish Arts Council has established an artist-in-residence program in Denmark. The program makes it possible to invite artists from abroad to stay and work in Denmark for extended periods.

The Danish Arts Council will let individuals or institutions within the Danish art world propose candidate artists from abroad – preferably with a view of working together with the artists during their staying in Denmark on projects such as exhibitions, workshops, public talks, and the like. Based on the proposals submitted, The Danish Arts Council’s Committee for International Visual Art will decide whom to invite.

In 2009, the program offers residencies ranging from 3-6 months, but application for shorter periods of residency is also possible. In Copenhagen, The Visual Arts Centre will provide the residents with living space and studios free of charge. The program also allows individuals or institutions outside of Copenhagen to organize one or more artist residencies of 3-6 months of duration – perhaps linked to the location in question. In the case of a residency outside of Copenhagen, it is up to the applying institution or individuals to find accommodations and studio space for the artist, subsequently financed by the program within an economic framework agreed upon in advance. The program does not cover the accommodation or expenses of accompanying family members.

Each artist receives a grant of 10.000 DKK per month to cover expenses.  Application deadline is 15 August 2008.  Proposals for residency during 2009 must be received prior to August 15 2008. Replies can be expected within 10 weeks after the deadline.

Please send proposals to: The Danish Arts Council’s International Committee for International Visual Arts, The Danish Arts Agency, The Visual Arts Centre HC. Andersens Boulevard 2, DK-1553 Copenhagen V

Music Network invites applications for/ Young Musicwide award 2008, deadline 13 June

Music Network, the national music development agency, invites young traditional Irish music groups to apply for the Young Musicwide award 2008. Young Musicwide is a unique professional development scheme designed to assist some of Ireland's brightest young musicians at the beginning of their professional career. The award this year is open to traditional Irish groups of any instrumentation of between two and five people. The closing date for completed applications is 5 p.m. Friday 13th June 2008. Through an audition process in September, an Irish or Ireland based traditional Irish ensemble, with a proven interest in performance will be selected to participate in the Young Musicwide Award programme for three years.
Modeled on international examples, the Young Musicwide Award programme is designed to provide up to three musicians or groups annually with an incentive to pursue a professional career in music performance, and to provide promoters nationwide with access to the very best of emerging Irish talent. The main features of the award are:
• Performance opportunities with Music Network promoters in Ireland. It is expected that the selected group will be offered several concerts each year, resources permitting, subject to agreement and availability.
• An agreed fee and expenses for each concert.
• A specially designed publicity package including a professional photoshoot and publicity campaigns around concert activity.
• Professional support and advice towards the development of participants' careers as professional musicians.
• Masterclass/workshop opportunities.
• Assistance with the production of a new CD.
• A Dublin showcase concert.
• After a 3 year period, an invitation to the group, subject to agreement, to join Music Network's artist roster.
The previous traditional Irish group to receive the award in 2005 was Slide who released their third CD, "Overneath" under the scheme. As recipients of the award they have toured Ireland extensively during the past three years, performing in many of Music Network's partner promoter venues, (approximately one hundred and twenty in total).
Other recipients of the award include the Callino Quartet (2001); voice and piano duo Ailish Tynan and Deborah Kelleher (2002); clarinetist Carol McGonnell (2003); Organics jazz trio (2004), piano, cello and violin trio The Syrius Trio (2006) and harp, flute and viola trio, Triocca (2006) and Trihornophone jazz quartet (2007).
