Seeing Georgian Limerick

To commemorate 50 years of the Irish Georgian Society the Limerick Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society and Limerick City Gallery of Art have commissioned four artists to take photographs of Georgian Limerick, celebrating the architectural character nor the historic importance of the townscape.

Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to host a major solo exhibition by socially engaged, Dublin based artist Michael McLoughlin. This is McLoughlin’s first museum exhibition and will present bodies of new work. McLoughlin’s process involves connecting with specific groups in society and developing work in audio, film, drawing, photography and sculptural installations, which explores their collective histories and social environments.

Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to host a major solo exhibition by Turner Prize winner Simon Starling. This survey exhibition, which is Starling’s first major exhibition in Ireland, will present previously existing work exhibited with a newly commissioned work, Mirrored Wall Head specifically devised for Limerick.

Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to present the first major retrospective by painter Walter Verling. The extensive exhibition comprises of over 120 outstanding works in painting and drawing made from the 1940’s through to present day.

Contemporary. Artists Explore. Gallery as Studio. is a laboratory exhibition exploring art making as a tangible process and investigating contemporary studio practice through relocation of the studio into a gallery.

Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to present a large scale exhibition of new paintings by Samuel Walsh. This exhibition shows in its entirety an ambitious body of work based on Dante Aligheri’s masterwork The Divine Comedy.

Michael Minnis - Here, And Nowhere Else. September 7th - October 21st 2007

Limerick City Gallery of Art is very pleased to present a major solo exhibition, Here, and Nowhere Else by Michael Minnis. This exhibition which includes new work in paintings, photography and video are all based on a book uncovered in Limerick dating from 1989 featuring a photographic celebration of the Ukrainian City, Dnipropetrovs’k.

Art From The Rucksack 3 - Japan/Ireland Artists Exchange Exhibition. September 7th- October 21st 2007
Limerick City Gallery of Art is very pleased to present an innovative international exchange exhibition, Art from the Rucksack 3. This exhibition is the exciting culmination of an Ireland/Japan exchange which involves new site specific work created by six contemporary Japanese artists.

The Colour of Surprise. July 6th - August 28th 2007
In the Colour of Surprise three artists, Jeanette Hillig, Michele Horrigan and Melanie O’Rourke challenge us to take a closer look at our surroundings. Their depictions of disregarded objects; an industrial factory, discarded toys, and an unlikely unification of primary coloured plastic objects draws attention to the waste spewing from our society.

Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to present an exhibition of the work of London based, Limerick born photographer, Joe Duggan.

Diana Copperwhite - Blind Spot. July 6th - August 28th 2007
Limerick City Gallery of Art is very pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Dublin based, Limerick born artist, Diana Copperwhite. Copperwhite was recently awarded the prestigious AIB artist’s award for an exhibition she is preparing for the West Cork Arts Centre. BLIND SPOT at Limerick City Gallery of Art is both her first museum show and also her first major exhibition in Limerick.
