- Plans of O'Malley Park Community Centre
Southill Area Centre is a new purpose built community centre, situated beside the Holy Family Church in Southill. The centre will offer community and sporting facilities to the local community in a safe, welcoming environment. Southill consists of 4 housing estates, O’Malley Park, Keyes Park, Kincora Park and Carew Park and is located on the southside of Limerick City. Since construction on the centre began in March 2005 a Regeneration Agency has been established to work on the regeneration of Southill.
What’s in it?
The centre will have a community café, sporting facilities, meeting rooms and offices for local service providers. The centre will also have a crèche service, as the Southill Family Resource Centre service will move to the new community centre. Sports facilities include a sports hall, handball alley and changing rooms. These will be open to the public, as well as any clubs who want to use them. You will be able to book a block of time in the sports hall or handball alley and enjoy a game of indoor soccer, handball, basketball etc.
Meeting rooms will be available to local groups to hire out and are suitable for meetings, clubs, support groups, training etc. Upstairs you will be able to access local service providers, such as Limerick Youth Service’s Southill Youth Intervention Project, Southill Afterschools Club, Local Employment Service and Southill Action Centre, VEC Out of school Counsellor or Limerick City Council. There is also a computer room upstairs, which all groups will be able to use.
When can I use it?
The centre is currently under construction and will open in Spring 2008. Once open you will be able to use the centre at all times during its opening hours. You can book time in the sports hall, hire a meeting room, get something tasty in the community café or call to the service providers.
In the meantime if you have any questions on how you can contribute to your community centre or require further information, please contact the Project Coordinator for the Southill Area Centre, Jennifer O’Brien on 085 7243282, or call in to 265 Avondale Court, O’Malley Park (Community Office behind the Health Centre)
