DORIAN, an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's novel
DORIAN – an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s novel ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’
Limerick Youth Theatre presents a physical/imagistic full length theatre piece based on Oscar Wilde’s novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.
Dates: Friday 19 and Saturday 20 of March 2010
Start Time: 8pm
The classic Oscar Wilde Novel is adapted for stage and is presented as a sequence of scenes and images inspired by the themes of the novel and not a straight narrative telling of it. Using dance, dialogue, film, and music, the piece will challenge as well as provide an entertaining response to the original material. The Picture of Dorian Gray is divided into five sections, each exploring a different theme of the novel but loosely following the narrative; Dorian’s Wish, Dorian’s World, Dorian in Love, Dorian the Murderer, Dorian’s Death.
The picture of Dorian Gray is the result of over 27 hours of rehearsals held over 9 weeks of workshops led by actor and director Myles Breen.

About LYT
Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) is a two-year training course in theatre and performance arts. We are funded by the Department of Education, through the Limerick City VEC and the Arts and Culture department of the Limerick County Council. LYT holds workshops with artists and directors on Saturdays from October to May and produces shows throughout the year mostly at the Belltable Arts Centre as well as participating in festivals held in the city. Throughout the year there are projects in performance and production as well as regular trips to the theatre and links with professional practitioners and theatre companies. First Year covers Theatre History, Performance and Production.
Recently LYT has launched TYT, an outreach project designed to provide a rich and challenging work experience module for transition year students. Paul Brennan has written and will direct ‘A MAN’S GAME’, a comic look at an underage Camoige team’s meteoric rise and fall. A MANS GAME will be performed at the Belltable Arts Centre in April 2010, with special performances for schools and youth groups. For more information please see www.belltable.ie and www.lyt.ie
